First of all the firing order is 18436572 number one is next to the distributor cap clip to the right as you look down on it , the rotor spins in a clockwise direction easily seen if you get someone to turn the motor over while you look .Another important thing is to seperate plug leads 5 and 7 as they run down the valve cover, with number 3 plug lead ,as 5and 7 can short each other out causing a missfire ,they fire after each other. You also need to check for fuel, remove a plug to see if it is wet or smells of gas,if this is dry check your fuel shut off switch to see if it hasnt been tripped by slamming the doors too hard, should be located inside the car in one of the footwell areas ,kick panel to the left or right . You could get someone to listen for the fuel pump to hear if it primes when you turn the starter switch to on before you crank the engine ,if not check the fuses ,try all this and let me know what you find good luck Paul UK.

i heard the the fuel pump come on and tried to look for the switch but i could not find it. thanks for the firing order but i think that i need the order of the cylinders cause when i went to take the plugs off before i mark the no 8 and no 6 was beside of it. i think whoever had the ranger before me got the numbers wrong and i need the order of the actual cylinder order from the block so i can get it right. i think the change the plugs and cap and the numbers on the wires were wrong order they didnt take the time to put it in order. now it is hard for me to figure out where they go. also which kick panel do i look under the panels on the inside next to the side of the car or the side of the radio panel in the middle of the car. thanks for the help not really got alot of experience on cars. and i really smell gas when i tried to crank the rover.and i check the fuses above the radio and all good. is there any relays or other fuses i should check.

If you stand at the front of your vehicle facing the windshield the bank to your left is 2 4 6 8 from the front to the gearbox end ,and the bank to your right is 1 3 5 7 again from the front to the gearbox, remember not to run 5 and 7 alongside each other as that may cause a missfire ,i usually run number 7 inbetween them both .If your car is a left hooker the fuel cut off switch could be to your left foot ,if its not there try lookin at the passenger side and the panel to the right foot.Keep giving me all your info and i am sure we will get there in the end, i work a lot better hands on ,but your a bit too far away so i will have to keep doin it this way.Lets just keep at it hang on in there , Paul
