My mechanic says to get a new one. Anyone know price difference? I am inclined to try a rebuilt. Anyone have a good source for rebuilts?

Actually my mechanic is going to try to shim the pulley and belt. Might be a great cheap fix for a while.

 

What sort of prices are you finding, you look around a little and tell us what you find and then let us know, we will try and better it for you.

 

Is your compressor making any odd noise or engaging at all? and is yours a P38 rr or a classic? I still have the original compressor on mine and it works great...

 

I believe if it needs to be shimmed, it is not the compressor but the clutch that is not working. To fix it, just remove one of the shims, or you can wire in a relay. That's what I did before I knew about the shim removal trick. works great!!
