I have a 98 p38 with about 150,xxx on it. Recently i parked it came back to crank it up and it simply clicked when i turned the key. The gearshift lever is in park but the light indicates its still in 3rd i was driving the vehicle in 3rd. The dash also indicates the same thing that im in 3rd gear. i got under the car to make sure the shift assembly was properly working and it is. its obvious the car won't start while in 3rd. My question is what is causing it not to recognize the car is in park ?

 

The vehicles xyz switch is messed up and thinks its in third.
