I just purchased a 1999 Range Rover. It still runs but makes bad knocking noises. Previous owner said his dad ran it without oil.

Now I figure it's just easier putting a used engine in it but RR engines around here are expensive. Discovery engines are cheaper. Can I do a direct swap with a discovery engine? What year discovery would work? I thought the 3.9 from the Discovery 1 was a direct swap but now I'm having my doubts and I wanted to ask before purchasing one.

 

if you look in the "for sale" section paul grant has a nice 4.2 with your name on it.

 

Will that be a direct swap? I don't wanna mess with any compatibility issues. My range rover says 4.0S on the back.

 

It's not gonna be a bolt up and go kind of thing imho..
find a good 4.0 gems engine
