Default brake system?

Hello,
I have just purchased a 90' RR classic, and the brake system has an issue. there is no shudder or pull to the brakes, but it takes an abnormal amount of pressure on the pedal to make the vehicle stop. I am new to the Rover world, so wondering if this is a symptom of a usual problem that occurs with these vehicles? Any thoughts? It seems to me that there is obviously a problem with the degree of pressure that the brake system is applying, but what is directly affecting it I am not sure of. Any thoughts or help would be greatly appreciated!

The brake pump or accumulator could be going out. The pressure switch may also be faulty. It will take some diagnosing to find the cause. The most common to go out is the accumulator though.
