Default Buying a Range Rover as a Toy Vehicle

All,

I'm interested in buying an old Range Rover as a secondary car to use as a fun car for camping with the some off-roading (nothing serious though). In other words is not going to be my primary vehicle.

I want to get something that is not that difficult to mantain by limiting the electronic components.

I'm posting this message because I'm not a Land Rover afficionado, at least not yet, so I need an insight of what should I look for in terms of:
[ul][*] Year[*] Model[*] Any particular items that I should check before buying it.[*] Price[*] Workshop manuals (My first guess would be the Bentley Official Workshop Manual)
[/ul]

I looking into a 1993 County Classic which it's air suspensioned was already replaced by shock absorbers and springs. I guess that eliminates completely the maintenance of the air suspension. Is that a good thing? Again I'm not looking for the perfect driving SUV on city/highway roads. I just want to have fun in a solid easy-to-fix vehicle.

yup.. classics are the way to go for a fun vehicle, ~ I paid peanuts for my 1993 Vogue SE & shelooks& sounds so good she still turns heads on the road.

Priceless,

In fact the other day, the previous owner flashed me to pull over ( I had bought her from a trader ), he runs over enthusiastically& details me with his whole history of ownership most proudly! - I took pride in telling him that all the little ****les she had were all fixed at no financial cost in a weekend, I showed him the remote central locking alarm & remote engine start I put in & he said if I was to ever sell her again, to give him first refusal!!! -

She isjust agreat bigfun car!, my kids love it!,
especially when going camping & driving through fjords & onto beaches & over big grass banks etc!!!

get one, you won't regret it at all!

Go with the Classic.

They are unique, rare, and cool. (and are real Land Rover produced vehicles i.e. not by ford if that makes a difference.)

Good Luck!

P.S. What kind of shape is the 1993 in? It is good that it doesnt have the EAS.

Yeah I would agree. My 90 Classic is so much fun I can't stand it. It was inexpensive and super easy to fix and improve. I have swapped out my springs for OME mediums and added longer Pro comp ES9000HD shocks and it rides exceptionally well on the road and off. Extended brake lines and some good tires will really help . I have a 95 4.2 in mine and quite a few upgrades but really all you have to do is keep it running and you will have a great time ......

Cheers !

All,

Well I finally bought a 1993 County Classic LWB. It is really a fun car to drive. Everything works with the except of the Cruise Control and the rear wiper. Althought the rear wiper motor works it just won't turn on with the switch. I just have to check the switch with a multi-meter and see if it's OK.

Overall, I'm very happy with my $2500 vehicle. Runs well and it looks like the family is pretty comfy in the rear seat so we will have tons of camping with this big puppy!
