My check engine light is on so I took it to mylocal AutoZone to scan the vehicle and they gave me the following codes:

P1316
P0460
P0300
P1196

Wondering if you guys can point me in the right direction to figure these out and get that yellow light to turn off.

Looks like you have some misfires and A/F ratio control issues.

How old are the plugs and wires?

 

I just replaced the spark plugs about 3 months ago, but I did not replace the wire... They looked to be in good shape? Whatare A/F ratio control issues?

 

460, Fuel level sensor circuit
1316, excessive emission misfire.
300 misc. misfires.

What brand of spark plug did you use, what octane gas? How often do you allow your fuel level to drop into the red light area?
You can not verify the condition of plug wires by looking at them, order a set 0f 8 mm Magnacor wires and get then installed.
Once the wires are installed, then get the codes cleared and see if anything reappears.

 

Thanx Mike! I was going by memory and knew I had at least one of them wrong.

I have had incredible luck resolving misfires by merely replacing the plug wires and plugs! I'm still trying to get over the resistance to pulling the upper plenum but I just don't fel like dealing with the one in the shop today.

I used regular Bosh Plantinum plugs and I always fuel up with premium gas... Usually fill up when I get to 1/4 of a tank. Would 87 octane gas work better?

 

On DIS engines, fuel is much less of an issue than with Lucas 13 and 14 CUx trucks.

OTOH, Bosch spark plugs do not do well in these engines, or rather these engines don't seem to do well with the bosch plugs. Go back to Champions and your misfires might just go away. I tend to use 322s in GEMS trucks and 318s in Motronics engines.

 

So you think I should fuel up with regular gas? Through rover connection I found they offer the Land Rover plugs RN11YC $60 for set of 8... It does not say the brand on the picture of the plug. What are 322's? And would that be the way to go along with the 8mm magnacor wires?

 

Never use any other gas the 91 plus octane, that is a well know fact.

I have NEVER used anything but cheap fuel in any of my Rovers. 226K miles on my Disco is enough support for me.

Hell, I'm running it on E-85 mixed 50/50 with cheap fuel right now.

Engines without distributors are even more forgiving with respect to fuel and the Motronics engines are even moreso with control over individual cylinders. Plugs and wires are much more important than fuel.

(yes, I'm the guy who ran his series truck on used parts washer solvent!)

$60 for a set of spark plugs? OMG, I'm in the wrong side of this business!
