Mine is a 99 RR and I have never seen the Check Engine light come on. Are all the warning lights suppose to be on when you turn the key to position II and the lights will go out one the engine is started and the car is moving ? I have hooked a OBD II test to the car car and it said MIL is off. My other cars will turn on the Check Engine light once the OBD tester is hooked up.

If your scanner is showing "MIL lamp off" and not showing any fault codes, i'd suspect a blown out bulb. Easy enough to replace.
