Default Cruise control and Keep hand on wheel message

I have a 2021 Range Rover and have used the cruise control without issue before today. This morning, when I set cruise control to “on”, simultaneously a red flashing message came up to "Keep your hands on the steering wheel" and the car began to STOP itself. I had lane assist on at the time. Luckily I was only going 26 mph and was alone on the road. I also had both hands on the steering wheel the entire time. It repeated 3 times and then I gave up. I tried again later and cruise control worked twice both with and without lane assist (didn’t know if lane assist was the complicating factor causing this) and then I got the same flashing message to keep hand on wheel and car braking itself. Has anyone else had this issue? Is it something I am doing wrong? Scared to death to use cruise control on highway now. Thank you.
