Driveshaft compatibility?
Have you checked other forums like the European and Australian ones? This is a great forum, one of my favorites indeed. But for classic Landies Land Rover Forums : Land Rover and Range Rover Forum or LandyZone - Land Rover Forum seem pretty active.
Abran,
I know you already got your answer but I thought I'd answer here in case anyone in the future was doing a search.
The Range Rover Classic, in the US had the Borg Warner transfer case installed from 1989-1995. The case is more compact than the transfer case found in earlier RRC's and all NAS DI's, the LT230. So, that means that the front driveshaft for all RRC's equipped with the Borg Warner will be longer than those used on LT230's.
One caveat, it has become more and more commonplace for owners of RRC's with bad BW transfer cases to opt for installing an LT230 as an inexpensive alternative. So, make certain that the transfer case in your 1989-1995 RRC is in fact a BW rather than an LT230 installed by a previous owner. The easiest way to confirm the BW is by the way the shifter moves. If it is only back and forth in a straight line, it's safe to say it's a BW. If the shift pattern is more like an H, someone did the conversion on your 1989-1995 RRC in which case, YES you can use the front driveshaft from a DI.
