Default Engine rattle on start up

I have a 2007 Range Rover Sport Supercharged with the Jag motor .

Engine rattles on start up , I have replaced the timing chains and tensioners and the seals for the VCT where it mounts into the variable gear .

The engine still rattles on start up, I pulled the VCT valves that stick up through the valve cover, and wonder if there are supposed to be seals on these.

This is driving me crazy ( short drive though )

Thanks Ralph

You've made sure it's definitely the engine, and not the cats?

Seems to be coming from front of engine , directly on start up .

That's why I did the chains and tensioners and noticed the seals were sort of slack .

Hey there, I am having the same issue on my 09 LR3. ITs only got 60k miles and has just started giving me a rattle on cold starts. Only lasts 1-2 seconds, and only on cold starts. I can feel the VCT solenoid vibrating when it makes the sound. 2 questions for you. FIrst, did replacing the solenoid require special tools? Second, After changing the gear, has the sound returned? Thanks!
