An Interesting Weekend
Well, today I decided it would be a good idea to bleed the brakes as it seemed like there was a little air in the system. I printed the instructions from rangerovers.net and saw that they were fairly complicated for bleeding brakes. It looked more like a start procedure for a commercial airliner. Anyways, I got started and had my brother inside the rover pushing the brake and followed all the steps. After about 3-4 hours I finally finished. There was brake fluid everywhere underneath the rover and for a second I thought the rover had sprung a leak in the line. To my relief I could not find anything other than I was a moron and managed to spill a ton of it lol! I will also add the battery on it was nearly dead (The rover wanted to stay in the garage as it was more comfy than the outside where it normally sits, what a snob....) I had to engage the abs pump for the bleeding procedure and did not want to mess anything up with the complex bleeding process so I refrained from jump starting it (I did not have battery charger either) I managed to complete the process with the battery dying right after I completed the last step, THANK GOD! There was not even enough juice to release the transmission lock and shift into N and push it out to jump start it. I could not jump start it in the garage because the battery is of course on the opposite side of the vehicle. I ended up taking the battery out of my brothers car and hooking jumper cables to it and the battery in the rover, and managed to start it.
I pulled it out of the garage and let it sit and idle with the hood open for a few minutes to recharge the battery. I came back and saw SMOKE!!!! Thankfully not a lot but, I still panicked and grabbed the garden hose and sprayed the engine like mad. I realized that the residue from the brake fluid even after I cleaned it off was the cause. I used an engine degreaser to get rid of any residue and thankfully solved that problem. I went to restart it, and the battery was dead again LOL! So I jump started it and then went on a little drive through the neighborhood, it was uneventful and the brakes felt like they were brand new!
THE END
