Key fob re-programming at home?
I have a 2000 P38 that had a key fob go flat with some dead batteries. With new batteries, I am ready to use that fob again and not just leave it in a drawer where it was forgotten and unused for years. How do I wake it up and make sure bad things don't happen when I do? The only instruction I have seen is to put the flip-out key in the ignition, lock and unlock the doors a few times (do I use the pull-up ***** on the doors, or use the buttons on the fob?), and turn the key on and off a few times in the ignition switch. My other fob still works fine, in the meantime. Do I have this procedure correct? Or do I have to visit my friendly LR dealer? If I can do this at home, that's what I want. But I also don't want to screw anything up with the car's central nervous system.
Very easy procedure. Put the new batteries in the fob. Go stand next to the driver's door of your Rover. If the door is unlocked, press the lock button on the fob then lock the door with the key. If the door is locked, press the unlock button and then unlock the door with the key. That's it. I had my local dealer try to charge me $100 for this. I cannot post my reply.
