location of crankshaft sensor in 2000 RR 4.6 Vitesse
I want to change the Crankshaft sensor in my 2000 Range Rover but I cannot locate it in the engine. I spend several hours under the engine looking for it but just can not locate it. Any idea where it is located in the engine? Please help.

see if this photo from the RAVE helps. A P38 and a D2 have a similar engine layout, at least in the Rovers North exploded diagrams. I couldn't afford a gas cap from either.
Crank position sensors tend to be "reluctor" style, they pick up a change in the metal teeth of the ring gear whirling by just a couple of millimeters from the tip of the sensor. When replacing be sure to make a drawing of excatly where and how any spacer is oriented before taking apart. This is number one problem with replaced ones - can't crank because sensor won't trigger spark becauuse it is spaced wrong.
