Default loss of power

I have a 98 Range Rover 4.6 with 85,00 miles. Beside my Rover needing new air bags for the suspension and a valve block. My Rover has been losing power as I drive. Gas pedal is down and then loss of power. It pauses for awhile, couple of seconds, then catches, and goes. If I try to push the gas during these pauses, the RPM goes straight up, but no vehicle response. I am not a mechanic and would appeciate any help or suggestions. Thank you.

Default RE: loss of power

Your transmission is most likely slipping.
Check the fluid first.
