I think i found the one I want to test drive

sounds like a good deal with all the new work done on it.

It is nice, but $6200 is a bit steep in my opinion.

 

It does look good and the work that has been done is nice but I agree the price is pretty steep. Its worth looking at but he needs to come down on the price.

 

I value the opinions here greatly, as i have 0 RR experience.

I realize it has 160k, but the work he had done makes me think there is a lot lower risk with problematic areas such as the air suspension..

i have been looking at all the RR's on ebay/craigslist/autotrade for about 2 weeks now and rarley do i see one under 5500... perhaps in my area (seattle washington) they are more expensive?

I have not really seen very many for much less.

Well a couple of months ago I bought mine a couple months ago for $4,200 and it is a 1997 with 104,000 miles. It is also limited edition Vitesse (only 125 made.) It is possible that your area may be more expensive but I wouldn't go more than about $5,000 on it.

odd i have yet to see one that the owner says runs without problems for 5k.

KBB is extremely inaccurate. I owned a used car dealership for 5 years and wouldn't trust kbb as far as I could throw it. The KBB on my truck is:

I paid $4,200. Yes I got good deal but it is not unheard of and is actually a pretty typical price. There isn't a scratch or dent on mine. Interior looks like it was never sat in. It's only owner was a doctor. It was garaged all its life and maintained by the LR dealer. It's Ferrari Red with black leather and red seat piping which is a very rare option. (when was the last time you saw one?) So yes, I think $6,200 is way too much for a '98 with 160k miles. I would not pay over $5,000 or maybe $5,500 IF it is absolutely flawless and runs like a top.

 

I have no car buying experiance. I plan on using my dad to help. If KBB is worthless (which makes sense to me as i have seen some outrages high/lows) what points do i have to bid him down on the price?

Does this RR fall into any known problem areas? (bad oil pump) ect?

I dont want to come off as if i am telling you that you are crazy and got a good deal, I do value the responses and appreciate the help.

 

KBB is accurate in SOME senses. I always go by "trade in value" which is what you will get for the car no matter what and CAN buy the car if you know how to do it. RRs do not necessarily have catastrophic failures. Just small ones that can cause major issues later (people often neglect or do not notice the little issues and then they become large catastrophic issues). It might take awhile, but check craigs list, autotrader, cars.com, etc. You will eventually find one for an exceptional deal. You may have to travel a bit to find one though....
