Update
I have talked to a sales rep at crutchfield.com they sell cd players that will fit in the range rover no problem, but say i would need to fabricate a trim plate. So i am guessing that car toys was full of **** (like usual) saying it would be a 10 hour fabrication job for a wiring harness.

I amkind of bummed... i have people interested in buying my current passat, but due to my insurance saying if i dont not buy a car after selling mine withing 30 days they will drop me from my plan....

i cannot find any range rovers in the 5-10k price range

starting to get sad

Hey guys, time for an update.

http://seattle.craigslist.org/est/cto/1423439819.html

says the only thing wrong is the headliner sagging in the back - he sent me pictures of it.

Is this a big job? Could i not just glue it myself?
Ill ask him for the VIN for a carfax, does anyone have any carfax access (if not ill buy it)

I still think that a 99 is not worth the $6700. Thw headliner is a pain in the butt to fix, it is not expensive but more a good amount of time. I would keep on looking for something that is a little less expensive unless you are just gagging for a Rover.

I will keep looking over this way to see what I find.

The guy is dropping the price like mad, I will check this one out for you if you want, there would be enough room to fix whatever was needed. It sounds like he really needs a truck so I bet you could even get it cheaper.

I think you could get it for 3k, if you pointed out all the "malfunctions". On mine I talked the price down 500 bucks because of leaks and uneven tire wear. Stating that it would take about that much at the dealer to have it repaired (it would at the dealer, did I have it repaired there HECK NO! lol). BTW the leaks are a good thing to "play" on with an unfamiliar rover owner. If they have owned it for awhile, don't bother, because then they will have figured out they leak all the time.

I feel odd buying a car with "a sound that will need to be looked at" ... I dont know i guess i am just worried about ehe RR I buying having issues I dont want to buy one with issues already.

what do you guys think of that?
New air suspension is a + for me...

curious why it is pushed to sell so hard. are there any recalls on the 2000 RR?

I bet i could low ball him, add appears to give that vibe at least

That one looks clean, it has been for sale for a while also so you may be able to negotiate and get a decent deal. I od not think there is any issue with the 2000's at all so do not worry about that.

The reason I keep reccomending something that may have a small issue is that those people are more willing to deal and if they do not know a lot about Rovers then they fear it will cost a bunch even if it is a really small thing. You can get great vehicle for very little money and spend very little to work out the issues. The one in Spokane has the coil conversion already so the suspension should be good, with a slush of money of a couple grand you can replace most everything and still be ahead of the game.

If you are just looking for one then go take a look at the one you posted and see how it drives, I am sure you would be happy with it.

Hi, I'm currently in the EXACT same position as you. I was looking at 2001-2002 Range Rovers in the 10k price range. I found a 2001 se for 11k with 68k miles and was tempted on pursuing it. I asked on here about it and they said it was too much. I just found a 2001 hse with all options for 7k with 70k miles. Which is awesome because I'm trying to sell my Mitsubishi Montero Sport for around the same amount on craigslist, so I won't have to pay too much more for it. I'm test driving it tomorrow and I'm excited, I just hope I get this person interested in my car to buy it. Good luck!!

Patience is good when your looking at buying a used Rover. Obviously they are more rare then most imports so often the sellers will ask a premium.

Rovers also show very well... despite the fact it may be hiding a myriad of problems. A Rover novice wont know how problematic Rovers can be and would willingly pay quite a bit more then they should (considering repair and upkeep costs).

Honestly, I wouldn't pay over 10K for a P38 at this point. Period. The '01 for 7K sounds about right unless there are major issues.

And Drocksmash, I don't believe there were any recalls on the 2000's. There were 2-3 service campaigns though if I recall. Also, personally, My '00 has had standard wear and tear but no major issues. The '00-'02s are generally regarded as the most reliable P38s. Many of the kinks from production earlier in the line had been worked out by this point (i.e. fluid leaks are pretty non-existent, etc).
