Default new p38

Hey guys I got a p38 and will probably need some help sorting some things out. First thing I need to deal with is a misfire , p0308 and p0300 I'm hoping it's a bad coil, the PO had plugs and wires done. It seems intermittent, I was thinking of switching the coils to see if the code switched cylinders to verify.

Do you know the condition of the HT leads, spark plugs? There's only two coils, four coil driver leads. If it was 8 and 5 then I'd think it's a coil or driver lead issue but it's not. Check the HT lead ends first. Nice snag by the way, that is the year and model I'm hoping to find, that and the 99 Callaway that has a few more ponies......

the guy I bought it from had receipts for plugs, wires, o2s, belt, tensioner, thermostat, radius arm bushings, sway bushings, front driveshaft u joints, spring conversion. he was getting raped at the "euro" shop and I think the misfire did him in, I bought the truck for less than he had in maintenance in the last 2 years. its possible that it could be plugs or wires but im still thinking coil

you might want to change out the plug and wire on the #8 and see if the misfire stays with number 8 or moves with the plug and wire. #7, #8 is where head gasket like to let go, are you using any coolant?

I'm not losing any coolant that I can tell, but I've onlyou been driving it a couple days. I did consider the head gaskets and factored that into what I paid for the truck, but I'm hoping for something simpler.

Good idea that's simple enough to see what I'm dealing with

Good news is looks like the piston is dirty from what I can tell through the tiny hole. I guess that doesn't totally rule out head gasket but is a good sign. Doesn't seem to have any overheating issue that I can tell of yet, I drove it about a hour home from my buddy's house after we trailered it home from 4 hours away.

Does anyone have any suggestions for what ignition coils I should or shouldn't use.

Got a pair of new coils from advance auto, no more misfire.
