"New" Range Rover - How To Protect Investment, Keep Running Well, Etc.
I was finally able to buy a Range Rover. I've owned a few used Discoveries -- 2002 was the newest I could ever afford.
Finally though, I have the truck I've always wanted - a Range Rover. I bought a 2006 Range Rover HSE and it has about 75k miles. It is in incredible shape both inside and out - the engine is extremely clean and it runs like a dream.
I am financing the truck and want to keep the truck for a long time. I unfortunately don't have maintenance records for the truck as they were not available to me when I purchased the truck.
So, with that in mind I am wondering what maintenance you would recommend for the truck. Are there things in particular I should have checked right away? The tires are new, the engine looks clean (on the outside) but I haven't thoroughly checked each and every item under the hood. I am not sure when the oil was changed last but I plan to do that ASAP.
From the look of the truck inside and out it appears to have been VERY well cared for and I can only assume regular maintenance was performed although I am not 100% positive of that. I can say the previous owners were meticulous about keeping it clean and looking new. There were even a few small scratches on some plastic pieces inside the truck that they went through the trouble of finding very similar colored paint and fixing.
I am very confident this is a well-running truck with no issues and I want to keep it that way. Your help in doing that would be very much appreciated. This is the truck I've wanted for 15 years and I am ecstatic to finally own one.
One additional question - I do not currently own a home with a garage so I unfortunately have to park the truck outside. Is there anything in particular you'd recommend to keep it as safe from the elements as possible? To make things worse I live in Florida and am worried about rust.

Rust? Your truck has been protected from that better than the rest. Look for it and address it as it shows. That'd be the least of my worries. Just keep it clean and keep an eye out. If I were you I'd have all the fluids flushed and changed, the tranny especially, and then normal war and tear and maintenance is all you face.
Not sure wher you can find this but all the cars and trucks I've owned have a maintenance schedule based on mileage. Maybe you could down load or buy the maintenance manual and that'll be a good place to get the info you want from.

You can figure that even if previous owner had "by the book" maintenance, it would be on the Rover schedule that is geared for leased vehicles and pushes repairs on to the next owner. Change all the fluids (differentials, tranny, oil, transfer, etc). Engine oil change at 3-5000 miles. Flush radiator. Refill green 50/50 premix. Install an Ultra Guage so you can read things like coolant temp from the OBDII port, instead of the factory gauge which will not tell you that overheating is going on until way past "extra crsipy". Brand new battery, largest that will squeeze in there.
