Default oil cooler swap

Need to know if an engine oil cooler off a 1996 range rover 4.6 hse is directly compatible with a 1996 range rover 4.0 se? Have several 4.6s available in local salvage, no 4.0s...this is the reason I ask, not to mention the added cooling effect since these engines are sensitive to heat. Thanks.

the 4.6 is a large cooler than the 4.0 accounting to LR. But the look like they should interchange, I've been looking at them to upgrade my 4.0.
I am not positive but I think the 4.6 has 6 rows and the 4.0 have 4 rows, but the size of the connections look the same to me.

The hoses are the same for 4.0 and 4.6, so they swap fine.

I am in Nashville, TN...had a local salvage with three 1997s in it. Went back a month ago and the salvage had scrapped them...asked why since they still had good parts, got a blank stare.

re: Went back a month ago

Boneyards have turnover based on price of metal, their need to make payroll, and the row of vehicles. If three were side by side, when that row goes they all go at same time. If Partz Vulturez have stayed away from the yard and sales are slow, hulks will be cycled out quicker to meet payroll.

Around me they last maybe 6 - 8 weeks it seems.

If you see it today, it won't be there when you come back.

And the large yards that post on line vehicle inventory with text message to you when a vehicle of interest comes on the yard - brings out the Partz Vulturez bright and early for the best pickings.
