Default Random whistling/beeping noise - HELP!

Every once in a while, our Range Rover makes this whistling/beeping noise. Sometimes it's soft, sometimes it's loud. Sometimes it's steady, sometimes it's beepy like morse code. It seems to happen more often when there's a passenger in the car with me. Sometimes the whistle continues once we turn off the car!! Sometimes it starts as we're opening the door to get IN the car before we ever sit down and start it!!! It almost sounds like some sort of feedback from the radio or electrical parts - but even when the radio is off it will still do it. We had this same issue with our last Rover (2003 or 2004?) too.

We find it weird that with both our Rovers we've had this problem - but I can't find any reference to it anywhere! Any idea what it could be?

Thanks!
-G

if it kinda sounds like its comming from the glove box area, its the e-box fan... its bearing is going bad, its what keeps your ECM cool when its hot... pretty cheap and easy fix

Hello, I own a 2003 Range Rover HSE and hear a blower when I switch the engine off that continuous to blow. I also feel a air underneath the dash that continues to blow. This also drains my battery if it runs all night. What could this possibly be?

Probably a fan blower for the HVAC system that is not shutting down properly.

Oh come on, its just saying hello and making small talk with you lol. Sounds like the computer cooling fan, as previously stated. The computer activates every time the rover is "disturbed" and then so does the computer fan. The rover will become "disturbed" if you open the door, or unlock it with the remote or do anything that might cause a feature of the vehicle to turn on, such as lights etc. After about 2 to 3 minutes, the computer will go to sleep and turn off it's fan until it is awaken again.

This might sound silly, but is your cell phone anywhere near the radio when it happens? I know if my phone gets any kind of transmission (text/email/incoming call) and it's near the radio it will make the speakers beep and all sort of other things. It almost sounds like a modem trying to connect.

Interesting...It may be that the person in the passenger seat has a cell phone on them that is causing this. I have turned on computers that cause AM radios to go crazy. So what dezlpower said is definitely a possibility.

It would be pretty easy to test. Just stick your phone in front of the radio (or your passengers phone) and have someone call it. It should sound something like this:

If the link doesn't work just youtube GRS Phone Noise.
