Default Range Rover "Service Engine" light

The "service engine" light on my 1998 Range Rover has just come on. The manual indicates that it comes on automatically at 82,500 miles to warn of the need for a special exhaust service. Does anyone know what this service is or how to turn off the light. I have tried disconnecting the battery.

Thanks.
