Default Range Rover Classic Engine Upgrade/Swap

Has anyone done, or know of a Range Rover Classic engine swap? My 1995 RR Classic has 166k on the clock, and while it's still running well, I know that the inevitable is coming.

Iinstead of doing a rebuild, I'd rather upgrade to something with more power.

Anyone?

I just finished swapping my tired low compression ticking 180+ k 3.9 for a much lower mile much newer 4.2.

Highly recommend it. Such a nice change and it was cheap considering.

Really? That's great. I'm assuming this is the 4.2 from the LWB model?

How much of a difference did it make?

Well since mine was pretty tired and the newer ( yes LWB donor ) one is tight it is a great difference . It's no Race Rover but it is now a pleasure to drive...sounds better ( throatier ) and much smoother. It is a job , I think at a dealership it is estimated around 50 hours. I was shocked because I have done many swaps in everything from RX-7's and Beetle to muscle cars ( 69 Olds 4-4-2 , Big Block Chevelle's Mustangs , Cougars etc ) and Jeeps ( Cherokees and Grand Cherokees ) . But it is a process and time consuming so be prepared. But I am happy I did it.

That sounds great. Where did you source the engine? Did the auxilaries (radiator, ac compressor, etc) work for the 4.2, or does all of that need to be replaced too?

Everything will work but you need to swap the timing cover from the
3.9 to the 4.2 unless you prefer the serpentine belt. I used the
intake from the 3.9 as well and the exhaust manfiolds for the 4.2.
Distributor from 3.9 as well. I will be remapping the ECU after
getting a Mallory Distributor for cleaner more reliable ignition. Then
I will be done and ready for installing an LPG set up. But that is the
direction I am going. As it is now with all RR parts ( except an
electric fan in plave of the clutch fan ) I am very very very happy

i burned my motor recently, and now want an upgrade.
I've been told I can/should use the 4.6 out of the 2003+ disco's. and swap all my stuff over.
stronger motor, more power, lower miles
cost of motor around 2500 - 3000
