Just a quick note to let you all know that my 1991 Range Rover Classic had the gas pump die some time back. It is easily removed through a cover plate on floor at rear, inside, of vehicle. Once it was out, I examined it carefully, and found that it is a pump with a simple DC motor, with carbon brushes. The only thing worn out, were those brushes, so I went to hardware store that stocks a huge number of motor brushes, and found a pair that were of same size; same construction. I installed the new brushes, and the pump has been working fine ever since. If you are afraid of such a repair, I would at least encourage you to repair your old one, if you can find brushes as I did, and store that rebuilt pump away as one for an emergency on the road, especially on long distance trips where you may be long distances from parts houses.

Sorry, but I have no cameras of any kind, and wouldn't know how to post pictures if I had a camera. I am elderly, with barely enough ability to post to this site; no ability to post pictures. I did this rebuild a number of years ago, and have no access to pictures of that rebuild or to pictures of the brushes. The brushes are common motor brushes, about 1/4" in dia. if I recall correctly. Such brushes from hardware or hobby shops, if oversized slightly, can simply be run across sandpaper or file, to cut them down to correct size, comparing them frequently to the original "stubs" left on original brushes in pump. The job is simple, works extremely well, and costs next to nothing, compared to price on new pump.
