I believe I triggered a "Check Engine" dashboard warning by sending in a wrong code w/ an incorrectly programmed remote control. I detect nothing wrong in my 1996 P38 4.6. How do I reset the computer to get rid of this error message? Thanks,

If you mean "keyfob", it ought to just be ignored.

If you mean "OBD attachment", I can't think of any way that one of those should be able to *set* your MIL, but in any event, it should be able to read and clear it.

So, what *did* you mean, exactly? :-)

 

... that is a bit odd, I guess its possible since its a rover. What code are you getting? Have you plugged an obd scanner into it? You need an obd scanner to reset the codes and check engine light. Usually you can take it to autozone and have them plug one of theirs in for free.

 

Sorry, I meant keyfob, not remote control. I can't think of any other symptom.

 

I would not expect that the truck would do anything with an unrecognized keyfob but ignore it.

I'd recommend, as others have, taking it to a local Autozone or similar parts store; most have an OBD-2 scanner which they'll plug into it and read off the trouble codes for you for free -- Autozone in particular has all the codes in their register system and will print you a descriptive slip about the code and its meaning (or at least, mine did :-).
