Default rr p38, the H gearbox/transmission

Hi There, pls someone tell me how does this "H" gearbox work at the p38, i know at the left side it is a regular automatic transmission, but i know nothing about the "right side", i'd like to buy a p38 2000 automatic, but i'm not sure about how does the 4x4 work in this car. thank you, Mark

The right side is low range. The left side is hi range. Both are 4-wheel drive. Very nice system IMO.

I agree, the 4x4 system is very good on these trucks. The only drawback that I can see is gas mileage since you cannot put it in 2wd.

Thank you very much Gentlemen!
Would you be so kind to tell me step by step how to use this transmission, i know few things about it but i need some help as you can see.
i've got a disco 2 automatic, and it's very easy, there is a regular automatic and another transmission with a bisector - (sorry, i'm not sure about this word) but maybe you will understand me - and nothing else. so this H gearbox looks a bit difficult for me, that's why i'm asking you to help.

Thanks you very much, best regards, Mark

Basically to operate it. You need to put it in neutral. Once in nuetral, simply slide it over to the LO side of the H gate. You will hear some beeps and the H gate will flash indicating that the electric engine below is putting the transfer case in LO range. You might hear a slight click followed by the lights on the right side being illuminated instead of the ones on the left of the H gate. The LO side operates the same way as the HI side. You can put it in park, reverse, nuetral, drive, and in gears 3, 2 and 1. Pushing the "mode" button on the transmission will put it in manual mode (It also puts it in "sport mode" when in HI range). Basically the rover will never shift above or below the gear selected when in manual mode. To put back in HI range. Simply reverse the proceedure. I made a you tube video ago for some guy on another forum that just couldn't get it at all. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mkrh6IztUr0 OH and make sure your RR is STOPPED when doing this.

The H does just what the transfer case lever does in the Discovery. When you move it over to the right it will the same thing as the diff lock just a lot easier to operate in my opinion.

Good luck with the search.
