Question Strange Headlight Problem

Hi. I'm new to this forum and have an '03 RR. My headlight went out, but the bulb is not the problem. It lights up when it was tested. My mechanic told me I needed a whole new headlight assembly because there's an electrical problem. This seems odd. Is it possible that just the ballast is bad? I'd hate to buy a whole new (and expensive) headlight assembly when they're a simpler fix. Has anyone else had this problem? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

It definately could be just the ballast, now I am not sure how to replace just that piece. It could also be as simple as a bad connection to it as well so check there too. By checking the bulb did you put it into the other light and see it fire or how was it tested?

tell him to swap the parts until the right part lights up.

thats what we have to do with LR. take out both headlights and swap parts over until you find the right one causing the issue.
