Default Tilt ? and oil?

Hope I can get some help here... just picked up my new-to-me 98 HSE.... Everything is golden, except I cant seem to make the tilt on the steering wheel work... Ive slid the rod out and pulled it tword the wheel, but the steering wheel wont budge....

Also... regarding oil, is there any opinion of doing the synthetic swap? I run royal purple in my Mazda RX-7..... but the Rover has 132k..... good idea/ bad idea?

And one more... being my first day, and i know how us car enthusiasts get... is there anything i NEED to do? ie... always run it with a specific type/brand of gas?.... specific oils? removal of any unwanted components ? ect.... Since i live the rotary engine... i know first hand how each and every model/ engine has a life of its own sometimes.. and special care.

Thanks!

Can't help you onn the tilt.
As for the oil, go for the Royal Purple, just realize that you can't stretch the oil changes out further the 5000 miles on synthetic, 3000 miles on dino juice. Always use either a Mobil 1 or a K&N 3001 oil filter, cheap filters will cause you to have dry starts.
Here is my list, that would probably be needed with the mileage your truck has. If you are at all mechanically minded you can do all this pretty easily and be assured of many good miles of driving. I would also suggest that if you want to improve your mileage and performance, replace your 4 02 sensors.
Shout if you have any questions.

This is the parts list for a 60,000 mile service the way I do it.
1 Oil filter, K&N 3001
1 Air filter
6 Qts of engine oil
12 Qts of ATF
7 Qts of 80/90W gear oil
2 Qts of Brake fluid
2 Qts of synthetic Power steering fluid
2 Gallons of OAT, orange coolant
1 Bottle of Lucas Power Steering additive
1 Bottle of Lucas Transmission additive
1 Can of Spray Carb. Spray
1 Can Of Brake cleaner
8 Spark Plugs, I use Bosch Platium Plus 4's
1 Set of Magnacor 8mm plug wires
1 Serpentine belt if not yet replaced
2 Bottles of SeaFoam

60,000 Mile Service or Major Service for High Mileage Used Vehicle just purchased
Bleed the brakes
Flush and change the power steering fluid adding one bottle of additive
Service the tranny adding one bottle of additive
Flush the coolant system
Do an engine flush before changing the oil
Do an induction cleaning
Clean the throttle body
Add fuel additive to full gas tank
Change both of the diffs fluid
Change the t/case oil
Replace the plugs and wires
Replace the air filter
Lube all the drive shaft grease fitting including the 2 slip shafts
Do full inspection of brakes, hoses, bushings etc.

Hopefully I didn't leave anything out.
Mike

Try removing the cowl around the steering column and looking at the mechanism. It's fairly easy just be sure not to pinch anything in the screws when you put it back on.

Default RE: Tilt ? and oil?

thanks guys.. much appreciated.... I do all my own wrenching on my RX-7... so this stuff is all cake... now i just need to learn/identify it all, but after poking around a bit in the engine, im begining to appreciate the simplicity of it all... IE... some other engines have plastic sheids and crap all over, hiding parts from view, but this one seems pretty straight up.

Regarding the milage... seems im getting about 18 on the highway, then avgs down to 14 combined highway and city.... i read another thread after searching the topic.. and it seems like thats pretty avg for most folks. Would you agree? or should i be striving for better mileage through some upgrades on the o2 sensors ect.... ?

One more... whats a good source for accesories, stock or not... im wanting to get/ replace, white side markers, trunk deck/lid, trunk rubber mat ( that covers all the carpet) and possibly rubbers for the whole cab for the muddy seasons. Also some random plastic dash parts. Is the classifieds on this forum a good bet? or is there a better source.

Might also look into changing your diffs and T-case over to RP. I noticed a little MPG and it quieted it down.

www.Atlanticbritish.com has a lot of accessories. For the lamps, you might try www.roversnorth.com
