Which way is the correct position for Thermostat

Which way is the correct position for Thermostat
I have a 1994 RR Classic, 4.2 V8, does the thermostat go in the same way a NORMAL one does, with the spring side twoards the engine, or does it go in backwards? Just curious, since these beasts are English, somethings are just different.
