Default Weird smell in my '03 Range Rover

My truck has recently started to have a somewhat chemically smell inside. I have cleaned the leather and vaccuummed it really good. I am a very clean person and do not recall having spilled anything in there. The only thing that has changed is that I moved, so now I drive my Bimmer to work and the truck is basically parked all week long outside. Could it be that maybe the plastic parts are releasing the smell from sitting in the sun? I would like any input on how I could get rid of this chemical-like odor.

Thanks,

It MIGHT be the sun like you said. I think its something electrical that is running too hot and has the potential of catching fire. I would investigate by sniffing around until you find the source.

I am not sure where you live but with the weather turning colder and using the heater now you may have a small coolant leak. It cna get drwn in through the air vents and have a lingering smell.

Could be the sun as well, so keep looking.

handsome rob,

I think you might be on to something with the coolant leak. It did dump out all of the coolant 3 times over the past 2 months. I'm sure there is still some coolant laying around somwhere in the undercarriage, or in the vents from when it sprayed all over. Good call. I dont drive it too often, so maybe a nice long drive and an undercarriage cleaning will do the trick. I live in the Long Beach area in California, so it's just now starting to get cool.

LRScott,

You're scaring me with the electrical theory. I guess I should take it to the dealership too and have it checked out.

Thank you both for your input. Good day.

Didn't mean to scare you, but it is a possibility. And since the electronics well... aren't cheap lol. I would make sure that is not the problem first. Speaking of scary, I opened the hood and unscrewed the coolant cap, and one of the connectors below it made a large spark... Everything is fine, but it scared the crap out of me.
