Default What should I look for in a P38 purchase

I am looking to buy a 99-02 P38 with a 4.6, preferably an 01-02 SE. It will be my winter car, dog hauler and tow my 3000 lb trailer on weekends and for the family vacation, about 1500 miles round trip. What are some common problems and issues I should be looking for when checking out a potential purchase?

Most people will tell you to run away and dont look back.
you can espect electrical problems, not major stuff just aggravating stuff like door locking issues, ac blend motors.
it it still have the air suspension you can look forward to those problems if not maintained a lot of people ***** out and put in springs.
personally i would be looking for something pre-bosh.
I have 99 gems 4.0 have had it 2-years Feb. so far it has cost me an intake manifold gasket,an alternator and a door lock.
i find it less wanting than both my discovery and almost as good as the classic

I was looking for a Bosch engine just because of the extra torque for towing. There is a 97 HSE with 86,000 miles on eBay for no reserve. Bidding is at $4k now. It's probably 3 hours away in Md. How much is something like this worth?

i paid less than $3500 for a 99 with 75k on it, but it was a total gamble on eBay.
I just happen to be on eBay and it had 10 minutes left, and i was was will to take a chance.
i was just lucky that it worked out and was as described. better actually.
