$8600 Repair Dealership Quote!!!
CAR: 2020 Land Rover Defender
My check engine light came on and I'm being quoted $1,700 for CODE P2187-00 IS PRESENT INDICATING SYSTEM TOO LEAN AT IDLE. INSPECTED AND FOUND A VACCUM LEAK AT VENT OIL SEPARATOR. NEW VENT OIL SEPARATOR RECOMMENDED AT THIS TIME.
My LED headlamp is not working and this is the quote $4,600: DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS FOR DRIVER SIDE HEADLAMP IS OUT. FOUND CODE B124B-11 LEFT DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHT - CIRCUIT SHORT TO GROUND. NEW HEADLIGHT RECOMMENED AT THIS TIME
And rear brakes to be replaced at the cost of $2200! QUOTE PADS AND ROTORS AS WELL AS PAD SENSOR
Is this normal? Should I get a second opinion by a mechanic that's not at the dealership? What should some of the repairs actually cost?

Yup. Absolutely normal.
The headlight DRL issue is less than 100 dollars to fix. You're not the first, covered many times in the New defender sub-forum.
Brakes are only a few hundred if you do them yourself, or a bit more if you take it to an Independent.
Probably should be moved to the New Defender sub.

Thanks for your response, I appreciate it. When you say normal, normal crazy pricing at the dealership? I'm guessing most folks here take it a ASE mechanic that work on Land Rover?
I understand that doing brakes on your own would be less but is it the right price range for Rear brakes and pads to be $2200? j
As for the light issue the dealership says I need to replace the whole headlight due to the daytime running light going out, but you're saying there's a fix that doesn't require an entire new headlight?
I wish I knew more about cars and since I'm a female I don't think I'll be learning anytime soon on how to do my own brakes but want feedback on pricing to see if I'm being taken advantage of, thanks!
For that price you can buy a used Rover. Thread reminds me of when I got my first Rover. I was getting ripped off by the dealers, but never seen nothing like this. $8,600 for that? I could do all this on my Discovery 2 for a few hundred bucks. Dealers always want to replace rotors ...even if they are 1 millimeter. Why not? The tires are off .. it's your cash. I had the dealer say new rotors urgent! urgent! now now! I said no. They went 30,000 more miles.
Take it to an independent shop or read up here ..and learn to do the work yourself. Sorry I know it's not what you want to hear. But those are your options. When looking for an Indy .... your going to have a hard time finding a good one .. but ideally .. you want to find someone who only works on Rovers. Always check the Indy price with the dealer price. An Indy that wants the same or more - tell them no. If I have to pay the same or more as the dealers.. there is no point. Indy should always be cheaper than dealer.
I wanted to buy the new Defender. I thought it would be better the old Defender and with expensive comfortable interior like the 150k Range Rover models. . But the final reveal was a was a big let down for me. size and shape,, too many computers. dealer only repairs. and sorry but IMO it doesn't even look like an older Land Rover Defender. When the video first came 6/10 comments was bad with lots of red thumbs downs Later all the comments were positive w few negative comments allowed. They could've taken the old LR Defender and made it look better. Instead they sell a cool rover that looks like it belongs parked at the Golf Course.
Never thought the LR dealers repair bill would be this high for simple jobs on a 2020 Defender. I could fix this in my garage with a few hundred bucks.
