Do the hoses and belt, also have them order the up dated t/body heater kit to fix the coolant leak, all they do is get worse. While doing the hoses, make sure to replace the t/stat and have them use DexCool coolant.

Mike have you ever had any problems with DexCool? I switched my blazer over to the 'green stuff' after repeatedly finding sludging at the top of the radiator and in the overflow tank. Apparently I was getting a little too much air in the system...but with the green stuff no problems at all. Other than the sludging, I didn't notice any other ill effects of the DexCool, but other members on my Blazer Forum have seen some serious corrosion in their systems (I blame lack of proper maintenance).

Edit: I'm still running my Range with the Land Rover-spec OAT coolant/DexCool, didn't want to risk changing anything LR reccomended out since I don't have a long mechanical relationship with Rovers . That is changing everyday though!

Can't say I have ever had a problem with it and till some one comes out with a better product, I will stay with it.

Ah ok that's good to hear. Confirms what a couple mechanics told me, that it's more a lack of proper maintenance.

Mike - just got the estimates back on all work you suggested:
Parts: All hoses, serp belt, throttle body kit,thermostat, coolant, oil change,and 3 pulley wheels which were warped
Labor:Several pressure tests, multiple highway tests, allinstallation labor + tax
Total = $1280 + tax

Plus - Replace rear brakes(down to 16th of an inch), cut rotorsand new battery for $450 more + tax.

Seem reasonable? MM

Tell me your are going toi do this yourself, all of it is easy and you will save a ton.
As for the brakes, any Rover mechanic knows you can not resurface Rover rotors, youi either use them again if they are not warped or buy new ones, also a very easy job.

Mike - I wish I could do it all but I travel overseas 90% of time and will never get to it. I mis-spokeon the rotors - I'm getting new ones.The question is, if I'm having someone do the work does this seem fair for the parts and labor?

It seems a bit steep to me for the work that's actually getting done, but then again, those parts arn't so much difficult as they are time consuming. At the typical 92/hour or whatever your local Rover shop charges, I could see how that would be on par.

Mike will have a better answer, being a service guy
