Default '01 Disco Doors Won't Unlock: EMERGENCY!!!

Yesterday, my key (no fob) wouldn't LOCK the vehicle doors (driver's side handle lock only in this vehicle).

Today, my wife thought she would try to lock the doors by pressing the "door lock" button on the right side of the center dash. Voila! It locked the doors! She shut the front passenger door and all 5 doors were locked. The problem is, the key will NOT TURN in the driver's side lock to unlock the doors. So I am stuck outside of my vehicle with the key in my hand.

AAA tried to pop the lock **** and could pull it up all the way but it won't release the door locks.

My local dealership was no help, "Huh... I really don't have a good answer for you," they told me when I called them.

This is an emergency as I am stuck without a vehicle. Can anyone help?

Cheapest thing to do if you can't pop a door, and usually you can't on a Disco, is to break out the cheapest window and unlock the truck. Then go get a FOB and have it programmed along with fixing the tumbler assembly in the drivers door.

Thanks, Disco Mike.

I called a locksmith (after getting nowhere taking with my local LR dealer) and fortunately he was able to use a lock pick to tweak the tumbler enough to get the key all the way in and unlock the door.

Sheesh! You'd think a Discovery was Fort Knox, or something. They really make it difficult to get in. The dealer told me they might have to cut into a door panel to pop the lock, as there is no other way to do it (so they said.)

Thanks to a locksmith and prayer, my vehicle is safely home in the garage.

Now to address the lock tumbler problem before trying to key lock it again...

Rick, lube all of your locks and hinges twice a year at least with silicone spray.
Your door lock is all gummed up and needs to be "worked" once in awhile.

seen that quite a bit. and pushing the button will not work. you must get in and manually unlock the vehicle with the inside handle.
