Default 02 discovery problem???

I have an 02 discovery and am having problems with it recently. It started 2 days ago when it just died at a stoplight and then after 10 minutes of rest it started back up again. Its done it to me two more times, now just before it does it I can feel a little kick in the transmission it feels like and I know its going to die again. Now I can probably drive 5 miles before it does it again.

Once the service engine light came on and the "manual" and "sport" lights were flashing as well as the red lights indication the gear its in on the shift which led me to believe that maybe it was low of ATF and a sensor or safety was cutting it off but I checked and the level seems to be fine.

Can anybody help me with advice before I have to go pay an arm and a leg for someone to diagnose it for me?

Thanks!

Clean and replace your battery cables, then go have the battery/alternator checked for low voltage, then getr back to us.

I cleaned the terminals to the battery and the cables looked fine. I doesn't seem to be short of power at all but when it died the first time I did have the seat heaters running, airconditioning and an auxillary power out of the cigarrette lighter and when I turned all those off it started up fine but since then I've had none of those on and it still does it randomly.

Could it be an electrical problem?

I also noticed a few days earlier a slight vibration accelerating to about 40 which wasnt there before and since then I've had the problem, could that be related at all?

Why you had the aircon and seat heaters on simultaneously boggles the mind but in any case...

restating what Disco Mike said: you need to check the charging system first. Take it to any pepboys/autozone etc. and they will do a free battery/alt. check to make sure your charging system is functioning.

Go to your local auto parts store and have the battery/alternator load tested.
