Default 03 discovery m light and odometer

have a 03 discovery 104000 miles just noticed that the odometer (lcd) is really hard to read seems to be either drying out or something and also when i push the mode button it only highlights the s light not the m at all. the s and m come on when ignition is turned on but when running, both lights do not come on or flash but using the button i can only get the s to come on. seems to be running and driving o k though no trouble starting

Sounds like a failing instrument cluster.
Not a big deal, you can buy them off of ebay for cheap, install it yourself and then have the dealer program it for you.

They have to program the odometer to match the trucks computer, if not the OD will work but it will flash and the mileage will be wrong.
1 hours labor, so whatever they charge for that.
Or if you can find a shop with a T4 or Autologic computer they can do it too.
Take a pic of the current OD before you replace it and show that to the shop and keep track of the miles you have to drive from the time you replace the instrument cluster to the shop so they can add those to the miles on the computer.
