'04 D2 ODBII codes as an '02 Ford Escape???
Dropped by AutoZone to read the codes on my '04 Disco and the report came back with a completely different VIN for an '02 Ford Escape. How bad is this news? Pretty sure there hasn't been any VIN plate sleight of hand or anything like that. The lady said she'd never seen anything like it.

It's actually quite common.
You have a kit car, sometimes referred to as a "kit disco". They took the 02' ford then spent the next 2 years making your 04' Discovery.
There is a secret tag in a secret location put there by a secret employee of Ford that has all the build info. You should get .000642 less MPG than a real Land Rover due to extra weight caused by the extra welds.

save up and buy an obd-2 code reader for keeps......there are a zillion of them available for $50-$70....
fwiw>>>most of the " P 0 codes ( like P0130 for instance) are the same for all obd2 vehicles regardless of brand, but ....the P1 codes ( P1756 etc) are vehicle specific and can vary from brand to brand
