'04 Discovery Key Programming
I've tried searching, but I don't think I'm using the right search terms. I just picked up an '04 discovery and cannot get the key fob to remotely unlock the doors. Is there a way to resync them to the truck, or do I need to go to the dealership? I've changed the batteries in both, and the both have the same 6 digit code.

You don't have to go to a dealer but a good LR Independent shop with an Autologic can do it.
Firstly some "self help" might be useful:-
Verify the fobs you have are transmitting an RF signal!
To do that go to an Advanced Auto parts store and beside the key fob battery display should be a tester. Switch it on and fire the key at the tester, if the light blinks its good to aim at your car.
Now the next thing is to remember that the car has an RF receiver and the antenna is inside cant rail area near the rearmost side glass--the two lines are antennas by the way.
Aim the fobs and see if you have any activity.
Now in the hands of someone with an Autologic or dealer scanner delving into the security system will show if the system is seeing a signal or not and it will confirm if the fob circuit boards you have inside the key are programmed to the system; the small labels with the code on the board will confirm that.
It might be that the security code memory is maxed out by the use of by by now lost keys and it won't accept any new key codes until some of that old stuff is cleared out.
Expect to pay about $75 for a program exercise the dealer is around $125 to $200.
Hope that helps you

Yes, they do. Also, the doors are not automatically locking when I put it in drive and go over 10 mph. Just noticed that yesterday. Probably not related, but a new thing I need to figure out.

Basically that would be the next check!
Does the central lock system work?

So, I took the Rover to an independent shop to see if they could get the keys to work. They hooked up an Autel and got to the key programming screen, but it would not accept the keys. The technician thinks there might be something wrong with the ECM, since the screen on the autel was flickering and not displaying text on some of the buttons.
So, now I don't know what to do next. Do I take it to another shop that specializes in Land Rovers, or do I head to the dealer?
