Question 1988 Discovery turns off....won't stay on

Just purchased a 1988 RR ready for trail....I got it a couple of weeks and used it as a daily driver just to make sure everything is sound.....Now when I start it...it shuts off...... I read the manual it states there is 3 positions....the III position starts the vehicle and automatically returns to the II position....well I can keep the truck on so as long as I hold the key between the III and II position but as soon as I let go.....it cuts off

There is an old alarm system in there that the previous owner said it never worked as long as he had it.....but I'm wondering if it's some kind of kill switch malfunctioning.....or the ignition switch itself....I emailed the previous owner and he said he just replaced the ignition 5mo. ago....with an ignition part from ebay.....can someone help me out.........

see https://landroverforums.com/forum/di...ock-fix-35422/ for pix of whats inside - you most likely need a replacement switch. Guess you mean 98 ? Range Rover or Discovery?

Land Rover Discovery has a bump up in the roof and two alpine windows. The rangie has a flat roof. Red truck is a Range Rover.

So which do you have? Discovery was intro in England in 1989, later in North America.

It is your ignition switch, no need to buy a new one, just take your apart, look in the DI tech section, your truck is the same as a DI.

That would be it. As I posted before. From the tech section. Would be same as Discovery 1's, made up until mid-1999. Here is a link to shop manual for your truck http://macassemble.com/lrm/range_rov...l%20(1992).pdf
