Default 1995 discovery 3000tdi/chip

Hi Folks,
I'm looking at a discovery 1995. It has a 300tdi engine and I'd like to know if it has a chip or not. I've been informed that the early 300's and 200tdi's didn't have one,I'm not sure if 95 is early or not! while I'm here does anybody know if it's possible to replace the solenoid for decompression for a manual mechanism, like in the old diesel cars and wagons. Thanks in anticipation of your responses, Pete
p.s. If it has an ECU where would I need to look for it please, thanks again!

On the petrol models the ECU in on the right front fender infront of the washer solvent bottle.
That is a LHD version, so a RHD version I would assume is on the left fender.

As for "early" or "late" models, that depends on the production date.

Default tdi 200/300 ECU question

Thanks Spike, My question was regarding tdi's,do the 200/300tdi's have an ECU or not that is the question. Any help getting an answer will be great. I guess it's common sense to look at the fuel injector pump and see if there's a cable attached going to a box which would house the ECU.My problem is I'm living in a remote location where I can't just take a look at a discovery. thanks again !

My point was that if the ECU is on the fender of a petrol version I would assume it is also on he fender of a diesel version.
But I do not know the answer to your question 100%, sorry.

Hi Spike, to be or not to be..that is the question...sort of a joke really! Thanks for your input, I've since found out that the 200tdi's don't have an ECU,they are mostly mechanical except the fuel stop solenoid which can be removed with a 24 mm spanner with most of the shank sawn off.The engine will then run wihout electricity.I'd still like to know if anybody has info re turning the solenoid switch into manuel operation ie with a cable, perhaps a new thread Spike what d'ya think mate

I would suggest you start a new thread in the DI section, there are a couple of guys who have/had TDI's and will be better able tol help you than I.
