Default 1999 D2 Won't go into park

Hello All,

I am having an issue with my 1999 D2, When I shift it into park, the park indicator light on the shifter and dash indicator does not show it in park and I can't remove the key when I turn off the truck. If I slightly push the shifter forward, it is a bit hard, but not too bad, then the indicators come on and if I hold it there then I can shut off the truck and remove the key. It seems to be sensor that needs adjustment - but I don't see anything to adjust.

I have not been able to find anything similar searching the net and was wondering if anyone has run into this problem and if they were able to solve it.

Please let me know if you need more information.

Thank you,

Tom.

Sounds like the xyz switch. Plenty of discussions of that on here -- you just needed to know what to call it.

You may need to adjust the switch by loosening the two fasteners and rotating one way or the other. There's not much of an adjustment. The holes that #4s go through are elongated. You'll need to check the indications to see when adjusted correctly. It's fairly simple once you find it. Ignore the tool called out for in the manual reference below as it's not required.

If that doesn't fix your issue you may need to get a replacement switch. They're are damn expensive so most purchase a good used one. They can also sometimes be cleaned by removing the cover once removed from the D2.

I'd adjust the cable first before touching the XYZ switch. Mark the end of the cable/rod for the PRND321. Then loosen the 13mm nut holding the PRND321 cable/rod to the XYZ switch and give it a little slack. Tighten it back up & give it a go.
