Default 2000 D2 Wiper problems

My wipers have just started to go haywire on me. The intermittent will move about a third of the way, then stop, then move another third, then stop, etc. If I have them on full ongoing, they are fine---so far.....I'm figuring this is just the beginning of the problem and want to get it fixed before I'm 100 miles from home in the rain and stuck. Any ideas on what may be causing this and how I might go about diagnosing/fixing it? I do have the repair manual for it, but I'm a girl and need a little extra encouragement here! Thanks in advance for any help!

It sounds like the internal stop switch inside the wiper motor is going bad.
