Default 2000 Disco not starting

I have a 2000 Land Rover Discovery series 2 with 90,000 miles (gas engine) on it and its not starting. I changed the serpentine belt on it, then let it sit for a few days & it started fine. Then let it sit for a few more days and no start. So I got a new battery, installed and it and it started fine. Let it sit for a few more days here and there with no problems starting then tried to start it after letting it sit for a few days and it didnt start again.

I just got the discovery a few months ago and it looks like the alternator is fairly new so I dont think thats the problem. Any other suggestions? Has anyone else had similar problems?

OK - when you say no start, if you mean engine does not even turn over; I would suggest that soemthing is draining your battery when the key is off. Should start if jumped off by another vehicle.

Important note: Hold down hood alarm switch when doing this as truck may think it went to sleep with alarm on, and now you are trying to steal the gold plated sensors.

If starter enages and spins the engine, check for spark (disconnect wire, attach to spare spark plug, lay on manifld). No spark is usually CKP (crank position sensor). If you have spark, check for fuel or fuel pump issues.

You need to get it started, then go to a parts store and have a free charging system test done, voltage must be between 13.6 and 14.4 volts.
Might also have the test for a draw.

Thank you all for your feedback. Which fuses did you replace?

It cant be the alarm because I dont have one. The radio hasnt worked since I got the truck (now I'm starting to think it might be an electrical problem thats causing the radio not to work). And I was thinking of replacing the radio AND adding a CB radio as well but I'm thinking that I'm going to have to hold off on those purchases until I get this electrical issue sorted out.

I just started having this same problem. 02 Disco. Was on reserve fuel and drove it home, engine was warm/hot. Rig sat for 5 minutes, tried to start and though it turns over, she won't start. Thought it was lack of fuel. Waited 30 minutes, rolled to level ground she fired right up. Filled fuel and drove it the rest of the day, stopped at the store for two minutes, came out and she failed to fire again. Let it sit for 30 minutes, she fired back up. Changed plugs and wires 20k miles ago. No issue. Had a throttle body leak, bypassed that and connected them together. Now I am thinking something is wrong in the fuel delivery...i.e., fuel pump/filter since these are one piece units. Has to be right? Well, that my next least expensive step is to replace it. Will provide feedback once I see a difference.

Any time you have stops or won't crank when warm suspect the CKP sensor, test is to check for spark. No spark in this situation is frequently a CKP sensor. You can alos pour cold water on it to reset it sometimes.

Hey guys I had the same problem, first and foremost check the starter solenoid. It has a tendency to act up when its going bad.
