Exclamation 2000 Discovery II Alarm problems

I have a 2000 disco II in which both of my fobs are broke. I haven't been locking the vehicle because I was told it would set the alarm off if I locked and unlocked with the key. Well curiosity got the best of me and I locked the doors using the key. And now when I try to unlock the doors with the key it will turn but nothing happens. Luckily the back door didn't lock so I was able to get in. The alarm now goes off and the engine won't start. I've tried everything I could find to reset the alarm and so far no luck. I can get it to turn off and get in and out without setting it off but when I try to start the car the alarm starts again and the motor won't turn. I'm out of ideas. Any suggestions?!

Door lock has a small switch on it that signals the alarm/locking. Switch or wire to it may be bad. Disconnect battery for truck, take door apart, service the lock. The RAVE circuits manual is your friend.

Default Drivers door lock won't lock with key from outside truck

2000 Discovery II outside door lock when trying to lock vehicle.

Inside door lock switch on dash works fine and locks and unlocks all doors.

Any suggestions, I cannot secure my vehicle?

latkadan,

Take the driver's door panel off and look at the rear of the lock cylinder. Usually the bar coming out of the lock cylinder breaks off. When this happens, the key will turn the lock cylinder with very little resistance. You will need a new door handle which are special order from the STEALERSHIP.
