2001 discovery transmission issue
I have been reading forums for days and I'm more confused than ever. I believe my tranny has gone into limp mode. My alternator had been replaced thinking that was the issue. My abs light and tc light and a red 4wheel icon is on my dash. Please help me figure out what's wrong so I can drive my disco.... thanks
sounds like what they call the "three amigos" Those lights will come on on my disco 2 intermittently and my cruise control doesn't seem to work but the truck drives. Theres probably just something wrong with the abs control module. Atlantic british has some videos on youtube about how to resolve some of those issues.
Are you getting any diagnostic trouble codes?
When my 2001 was stuck in third, the M and S green mode lights were flashing...but I had the check engine light on too. Mine was a terminal had come loose inside the black plug on the transmission. However, I had none of the other lights you are getting on the dash. Not much help, I know, but your issue is somewhat different than mine.
Good luck,
Brian.

Thanks for all the help. I replaced the relay switch in the abs box and the three amigos went away. Also someone engaged the cdl. It took me a while to find that switch but I turned it off. Now my transmission can shift gears. Has anyone had their cdl engaged and their tranny wouldn't shift??
Not sure about your specific truck, but on some D2s the combination of Sport Mode and low range (with the CDL either locked or unlocked) is Manual Mode, meaning that the transmission will no longer shift automatically.
Are you sure your CDL was locked? If you have a D2 then it didn't come from the factory with that capability installed.

Yes I'm positive it was engaged. The main reason the previous owner sold it was because it wasn't shifting gears and he couldn't figure it out. Once I disengaged it is was able to shift through all the gears.
So your range shift lever moves in an H pattern, not just backwards and forwards through H-N-L? Or did you crawl underneath and move the bolt with a wrench (assuming you're one of the lucky few whose 2001 D2 came with the lockable t-case.)
If it truly was locked, that would light up the "4 wheel" light on the dashboard.

No it doesn't move in an h pattern. I couldn't find it underneath so I removed Mt center console and went that route lol. But yes I can turn it on manually if I wanted too. As soon as I turned the bolt counterclockwise my cdl warning light went off
