Default 2003 Disco - Squeeling upon Acceleration

My 2003 Disco - 108k miles, is starting to make a squeeling sound when I press on the gas. The noise maintains itself as I drive. Could this be a belt? Anything I should check prior to taking it in?

Also, the BRAKE light has been on solid red (no flashing) in the control panel for some time now. Not sure what this might indicate.

Any help would be beneficial as it's becoming embarrassing to drive now.

Tony

Yes your belt is bad, replace it.
As for the brake light...that means a serious brake problem and you are risking the lives of others as well as yours by driving with this on.

Hi, My 2001 had a squealing noise at accelerations, I checked the u-joints on the front propeller: the u-joint on the transfer case end had a just a little play almost undetectable. When I removed the shaft that u-joint fell apart. I was more than lucky I didn't knock a hole in the side of the transmission. If you haven't had your u-joints replaced and you have over 100k miles on it, just remove your front propeller and get the u-joints replaced. A lot of the time they are on a bind and will fool you when you check them. I was charged $178.00. Soooooo worth it. If you don't replace them you will destroy your transmission and unless you can find a good used one and do the work yourself, you might as well part the heap out cause it will cost you more than it is worth. Note: after the replacement of the u-joints my Discovery was a whole new vehicle, quiet and smooth as glass. All the strange vibrations and noises that several shops including Land Rover could never figure out were resolved. It's one of the cheapest repairs too make and letting them go just isn't worth the terrible risk you are taking. Replace those u-joints, you'll be more than glad you did, even if your squeal is just a loose belt.
