So my disco check engine light rears its ugly head again.... This time P0327, knock sensor.
I bought it recently and it's been a project so far... But haven't gotten into anything too serious as far as maintenance, because I just haven't had enough time. Anyway, the knock sensor code... I'm wondering if it needs plugs and wires. I haven't looked at the plugs yet, but the wires are original for sure (truck has 91,000) I am planning to put new magnecors on it, just haven't had time yet, but I'm wondering if the old plugs/wires are the cause of the knock sensor code. Also.... When I put the pedal 1/2 way down or more I can hear it pinging (not knocking) at higher RPM's
I have run 93 octane in it for the approximately 700 miles that I have owned it.
Any thoughts??? I know they need done anyway, but does anyone think changing the plugs and wires fix this? Will just putting more miles on it with 93 in the tank fix it?
I saw the knock sensor code and thought the sensor needed replaced, but then heard the pinging, so am thinking it's doing its job... Which could be a good thing - will put that 100 bucks towards wires instead of a new sensor(!)
Thanks in advance for any insight on this issue!!
Savannah I'm looking in your direction - hahaha (he and Mike have helped me through multiple issues in the past with this truck and my '02 P38)

look at kingsborne wires half the price of the others just as good.
Landrover Wiresets - Kingsborne Ignition Spark Plug Wires Sets made in the USA
and yes the knock sensors are to eliminate pinging might want to check them both

Ill check out the kingsbourne, lord knows I could certainly stand to save a little $$$.
So the knock sensors do actually limit the knocking/pinging, not just monitor it then?? From the word "sensor" I just had assumed that it was just a sensor, and not actually doing anything else. Ill have to look them up, I don't even know where they are, assuming they have to be mounted to the sides of the block or head though.
Thanks for the input!

from the Bosch ECU manual:
The Engine Control Module (ECM) controls engine fuelling using sequential injection to all cylinders. Four double-ended ignition coils provide ignition.
The ECM detects and corrects cylinder knock by advancing or retarding the ignition timing. In the event of a knock system failure a safe ignition map is used.
So knock sensors are one input the computer monitors and uses to determine the spark advance per cylinder on the fly. Lots of math going on there.
If you want to know more about the various engine codes, what makes them trigger, etc., the Bosch ECU manual is a free download in my signature link. This is separate and in more depth than the RAVE.
