2014 LR4 will not go into gear - does this diagnosis seem reasonable?
I have a 2014 LR4 that just rolled over 100K miles. Car is well cared for and in excellent shape.
After making a stop at a store a few days ago the gear dial would not allow go into gear. When the car is started the dial raises but is locked in place when I try to put it in gear. This seems similar to the behavior when not stepping on the break.
My assumption was this is probably a sensor problem, however, the suggested actions (quite criptic) from the dealership seems like it may be huge overkill and is extremely pricey. Please see their response below and let me know if this is reasonable.
"Technician's comments:RELATED TO THE ISSUE OF THE STUCK IN PARK POSITION, FOUND 2 CODE P080 PARK NEUTRAL SWITCH INPUT CIRCUIT AND P1707 PARK NEUTRAL INDICATION CIRCUIT ACTUATOR STUCK OPEN, NEED TO START TO REPLACING THE GEAR SHIFTER CONTROL MODULE CAUSE THAT THE PARK ACTUATOR SOLENOID IS OPEN CIRCUIT, AFTER INSTALLING THE GEAR SHIFTER RETEST TO MAKE SURE THE THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE IS DAMAGE TOO" - Cost: $1684."
Thanks for any help,
KeithB
