I just bought This 96 rover discovery SE with 155,xxx from a local foreign auto mechanic it has been sitting since 2006 with a bad fuel pump. i replaced the pump but am having problems with getting the truck to crank. suprisingly i hooked power up the truck and as far as i can tell the electronics still work well all windows and both sunroofs (EVEN THE KEYFOB) i was really suprised by that one. i've included a few photos of my project. i plan to put do the 60k servicing then upgrade to the 2003 style headlights with a custom saudi grille and removing the lower apron while swapping the end caps with the 03 end caps. please give me some ideas to bounce around about both performance and appearance. i will be using it for a daily driver and light offroad use camping only. and i have been around rovers my whole life parents were owners of a 99D1 and a 99RR HSE. i have owned 2 Disco 1's as well so i know my way around a rovers a bit. im only 19 so i dont have all the time to wrench on it because of school give me some insight.

 

i just bought a black 96 disco my self.... but being in school take auto shop granted your school offers it. and check the idle controle as well as the front drive shaft and rear rotoflex.

 

what did the foreign auto mechanic say about why the truck won't start?

 

@ disco106, sorry to say im in college and they do NOT offer auto shop classes i would not want to take one if they did offer it either it would be highly expensive also do you live in michigan is it a 96 disco SE7 with dark tint??
@zeropegleg, the mechanic told me it was towed in for a bad fuel pump that is all, the starter could have been bad when towed in as well it requires a few taps to even get it to turn over slowly im not suprised it has been sitting for 4 years. the only suprise i have had is that ALL eleectronics work, well i will test the rest of them when i get it running but non running all accesories work.

 

So when you turn the key to to start the engine what does it do?
Anything? Does it click?

 

no i live in utah, and my rover have some kiind of purple tint thats gonna be coming off soon
