96 Discovery head gasket
I have purchased a 1996 land rover discovery SE not too long ago and I believe that it has a bad head gasket. When I start it it runs fine and it drives fine but there is white smoke coming from the exhaust. It is also leaking oil into the engine bay and coolant is disappearing. I have checked the oil cap and it does not look like coolant is getting into the oil. I was wondering how hard of a job it would be to replace a head gasket on this vehicle, I do have a pretty good amount of experience working on vehicles I would just like to know the difficulty level. Also, is there any special tools that would be needed?
not bad a day to take it, send the heads to be machined a day to put it back and start it up. there are no LR specific tools needed an 8mm 12 point for the valve cover bolts, and a 5/8 6 point impact for the head bolts
